The Advance to GP Course is for 2 similar EDDAs to upgrade their skill sets
When the practice needs another Expanded Duties Dental Assistant chairside for the GP dentist, they may look inside the practice first. An EDDA – Hygiene or EDDA Hygiene + Ortho Scan is an excellent place to begin. This course serves the need of 2 different types of practices:
- The practice whose EDDA – Hygiene does not have Ortho Scanning duties, and the practice does not want or need Ortho Scanning.
- The practice with EDDA – Hygiene + Ortho Scanning that needs to advance that EDDA to the level of EDDA – GP + Scan.

Upon successful completion of this course,
The Expanded Duties Dental Assistant with the EDDA – Hygiene certificate will also have the Advance to GP certificate. These two certificates will allow the EDDA to perform all of the duties of the EDDA – GP assistant.
The Expanded Duties Dental Assistant with the EDDA – Hygiene + Ortho Scanning certificate will also have the Advance to GP certificate. These two certificates will allow the EDDA to perform all of the duties of the EDDA – GP + Ortho Scan assistant.

The Expanded Duties covered in the Advance to GP course are listed below:
- Place cavity liner, base or varnish over unexposed pulp.
- Apply desensitizing agents to root surfaces of teeth and prepared dentinal surfaces of teeth prior to cementation of temporary restorations and crowns, bridges, or inlays.
- Changing of bleaching agent, following initial applications by the dentist, during the bleaching process of vital and non-vital teeth after the placement of a rubber dam; and applying the fiber-optic light source of a curing light for activation of the bleach (not to include the use of a laser device).
- Packing and removing retraction cord, as prescribed by the dentist, so long as said cord is used solely for restorative dental procedures.
- Intraoral fabrication of temporary crowns and bridges. All such adjustments must be performed extraorally.
