Who is Eligible to Take the Expanded Duties Dental Assistants Certification Courses?
The Georgia Board of Dentistry has established three (3) categories of assistants who may sit for the Expanded Duties Dental Assistant (EDDA) certification courses:
- An assistant who possesses current certification that s/he is a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). The CDA is awarded by the Dental Assisting National Board following successful completion of a three-hour written exam. To keep the CDA designation current, the assistant must complete twelve (12) hours of CE each year.
- An assistant who is a graduate of a one (1) year accredited dental assisting program or a dental assisting program approved by the Board or be eligible for graduation. The certificate is only awarded if the assistant successfully completes the program. This allows assisting courses (programs) that are of one (1) year’s length, and that have been recognized and approved by the Board, to award certificates to their students.
